We serve all of Alabama
Cross, Poole & Smith is a statewide law firm. Our Tuscaloosa Car Accident Lawyers handle cases in state and federal courts throughout Alabama. Through our network of contacts in all areas of the state, we have established a presence in both rural and urban parts of Alabama. We have found that our formula for success in representing individuals and small businesses works well in any county in Alabama.
Our Alabama Accident and Injury Attorneys are Committed to Professional Excellence
The lawyers at Cross, Poole & Smith long ago made a deliberate decision to limit our practice to the representation of claimants and plaintiffs in civil litigation. By concentrating in one particular area of practice, our attorneys are able to achieve and maintain the knowledge, skills and experience that are necessary when representing injured individuals in civil lawsuits. Both Dell Cross and Justin Smith have been frequent lecturers in Alabama in the area of civil litigation. They have written several materials and spoken to other lawyers at numerous continuing legal education seminars across the state.
Our experience matters
Our Alabama Accident Attorneys have significant experience handling personal injury and wrongful death cases. Dell Cross and Phil Poole have practiced law for well over 20 years and Justin Smith has been a trial lawyer for eight years. The firm’s attorneys have handled in excess of 750 personal injury and wrongful death cases in state and federal courts. The cases have ranged from car accidents between individuals to complex toxic tort and product liability cases against some of the most powerful corporations in America. The firm remains dynamic and is constantly seeking ways to better serve its clients.
Our small size enables us to maintain close relationships with our clients
We are a small law firm by design. Our Tuscaloosa, Alabama Truck & Car Accident Lawyers know our clients and interact with them throughout the handling of their cases. We carefully select the number of cases that we choose to accept so that we can focus more intently on each client’s case. It is our philosophy that the practice of law should not be a high volume business in which more is always better. By limiting our size and case load, we are able to make a full commitment to every case.
We are located in the Historic Marmaduke Williams House
The Marmaduke Williams House was named after its most famous early resident. Marmaduke Williams was born on April 6, 1774 in Caswell County, North Carolina. He completed preparatory studies, studied law and practiced law for several years. Williams was a member of the North Carolina State Senate in 1802. He was then elected to the 8th United States Congress and reelected to the 9th and 10th Congresses (March 4, 1803-March 3, 1809). He moved to the Mississippi Territory in 1810, and then to Huntsville, Alabama.
In 1818, when he was 44 years old, Williams and his family moved to Tuscaloosa. He was a delegate to the Alabama Constitutional Convention of 1819 and made an unsuccessful bid to become the first Governor of Alabama. Williams served in the Alabama House of Representatives from 1821 to 1842 and was a Judge of the Tuscaloosa County Court from 1832 to 1842. Williams died on October 29, 1850 and is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Tuscaloosa.
The Marmaduke Williams House was built in the 1830s by Williams' son-in-law, Judge Thomas Owen. The original house plan consisted of two main rooms on the ground floor of the main block: a large room with a fireplace and a smaller unheated room containing stairs to the second floor. The ell in the rear of the house was added at a later time. Located in the Druid City Historic District of Tuscaloosa, the Marmaduke Williams House is one of the oldest homes in Tuscaloosa and is the only early Federal style building that still exists in Tuscaloosa. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in February 1975.
